AI-assisted medical research for integrating basic and clinical science
The Molecular and Basic Research Group comprises the following five young researchers. The team’s shared objective is to enhance the quality and efficiency of medical research by integrating data from diverse fields, underpinned by AI and digital transformation. Leader Ken Muramatsu (Dermatology) will validate the clinical application of data-driven analysis combining single-cell sequencing and large language models, targeting autoimmune skin diseases such as bullous pemphigoid. Tsutomu Tanaka (Immunology) aims to bridge basic and clinical medicine by performing data-driven analyses of disease-specific immune mechanisms and conducting functional analyses using tools such as genetically modified mouse models. Yoshitaka Oda (Tumour Pathology) will utilise AI in experimental pathology, scoring, and diagnostic support. Hiroyuki Kameda (Radiology) and Takanori Shinotsuka (Pharmacology) will work to elucidate the brain’s water dynamics, which underpin the brain clearance system. Using MRI and multiphoton microscopy, we visualise water molecule dynamics within the brain across a broad range of scales. By integrating these using AI, we strive to elucidate the actual mechanisms of the brain clearance system. Furthermore, we will conduct collaborative research with researchers from other sub-themes, actively pursuing interdisciplinary integration to achieve our objectives.
